When Following Jesus Costs You Socially: 2 Timothy 1

In this sermon from 2 Timothy 1, we explore the social cost of following Jesus and the courage required to remain publicly identified with Him and His people. Shame has always been a powerful force. It threatens our belonging, our reputation, and our identity. In Paul’s letter to Timothy, he warns believers not to be ashamed of the gospel—or of those who suffer for it. The message of Jesus challenges the very foundations people often build their lives on: achievement, certainty, self-gratification, and self-rule. Yet God does not leave His people alone. Through the legacy of faith, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the support of the Christian community, believers are equipped to remain faithful even when following Jesus becomes socially costly. In this message we look at: Why the gospel can bring social shame The temptation to distance ourselves from Jesus or other Christians The support God provides through His Spirit and His people How we can follow the example of Onesiphorus by seeking out, refreshing, and standing with fellow believers in difficult seasons Challenge: Identify one person this week that you can intentionally seek out and refresh in their faith. 📖 Scripture: 2 Timothy 1 ⛪ Church: Table of Life Church If this message encouraged you, consider sharing it with someone who might need the same encouragement.
