Ordinances? Lord's Supper? Baptism?

The Lord’s Supper was recorded in Matthew 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-24, Luke 22:14-23 and 1 Corinthians 10:17-34. Provisions for practice of the Lord’s Supper are given in 1 Corinthians 11:24-26. The Didache (chapter 9) also speaks to the church’s early practices of the Lord’s Supper, a prayer was recited, the focus of the practice is the unity of believers and only those who had been baptized were permitted to partake.

Baptism is commanded in Matthew 28:18-20, John 4:1-2 and was practiced in the early church in after a believer came to a saving faith, Acts 2:38, 41; 8:12-13, 36, 38; 9:18; 10:47-48; 16:15, 33; 18:8; 19:5. The Didache (chapter 7) denotes methods for baptism dating to the 2nd century. This text is not authoritative as it is not inspired nor part of the New Testament canon but provides insight into the early practices of the church. In short sum: immersion is preferred, but pouring permitted when immersion is not possible.

Baptism as a symbol of our unity with Christ in his death and resurrection: Romans 6:4, Gal 3:27, Colossians 2:12, 1 Peter 3:21. I believe that these practices are not MERELY memorial, they contain the power of God’s grace, but neither are they REQUIRED for salvation.
